Descripción - Reseña del editor The mermaid is a common motif throughout English medieval sculpture. To date, however, there has been no comprehensive, accessible study of the image, its contexts and its meanings. This book aims to change this situation, exploring the image of the mermaid in English sculpture and allied arts from the Romanesque to the Renaissance periods. Biografía del autor Alex Woodcock is a stonemason at Exeter Cathedral. Following degrees in archaeology at Leicester and York he completed his PhD thesis on medieval architectural sculpture at the University of Southampton and then studied stonecarving and buildings conservation at Weymouth College. He has published several articles and books, most recently, Gargoyles and Grotesques in 2011. He was recently made a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries.
